In 1991, this stele was moved a few hundred meters from its original location to its current location near Norderländer Straße.
On May 18, 2019, a second stele was unveiled at this memorial, with the name of all 46 victims of this accident.

With 46 fatalities (42 passengers + 4 crew members), this crash of a Lufthansa Convair CV-440 was the most serious air accident by Lufthansa after WWII.
Among the fatalities were 7 swimmers of the Italian Olympic team, their trainer and an Italian reporter who were invited to the 10th international swimming festival in Bremen.
