With their crippled or twisted growth, the looping of the branches and the tent-like crown formation, they were not only scary for many people. The wood recycling of this "Deuwelholts" was not a pleasure for the forest owners either: It simply could not be recycled because of the twisted growth. You couldn't make furniture out of it, and even as firewood it couldn't be stacked.

Süntel beeches impress with their twisted, stunted, intergrown branches and their very short, twisted trunks. They grow more in width than in height. They rarely reach a height of over 15 meters. With their drooping branches, the Süntelbuchen form tent-like, hemispherical or mushroom-shaped crowns. The growth form is hereditary, but its origin is still unclear. (Source. WIKI)
