The former pastor of the Letzenberg congregation, Erich Egner-Walter, happily shared the following joke in a friendly round: asks the teacher in religious education how many sacraments there are. If a student answers: three. Asked why, the boy replies, "Last night the pastor, the teacher, and the mayor were standing together, and my father said: 'There they stand, the three sacraments.'" Malsch's mayor Werner Knopf remembered this joke, when it came to the question of what would be the appropriate artistic motive for the square in front of church and town hall.
