The fortress is located right next to the harbor canal - it guarded Gdansk from the sea. Until the 16th century, it was right on the shore of the sea. Over time, the peninsula Westerplatte, which separated them from the sea. A fire was burning on the tower, showing the way to ships heading for the port of Gdansk. Hence the traditional name of the fortress - lighthouse.
The complex is open to visitors only during the season from June to the end of September.
