The Stadtgarten was established in 1896 under the then Mayor Vattmann as a public park, the first of its kind in Gelsenkirchen, on the site of the former Schalke farm. It was opened to the public in 1897 as Kaiser Wilhelm Park. It was expanded in 1901 and 1902, 1912, 1914, and 1918. In 1933, it was redesigned according to plans by garden director Simon, and it roughly corresponds to its current form. In 1944, the Stadtgarten was badly damaged by bombing and repaired in 1949.

Nice historical park. There is a Japanese garden, a large pond, a post-1950 garden with water features, a rose garden, and many playgrounds. And a viewing hill, which has fresh air even when it's warm, and first of all the old trees
