4.5 m high monument in steel. Two cyclists climbing the Maasberg are depicted in silhouette on top. On the front is a map of the Maas and the Juliana Canal, on the back the same map, but reversed. Cut out on one side are images of the village church of Elsloo, the ruins of the castle of Stein and the mill of Urmond. The monument is a reminder of local cycling heroes.

The monument, at the foot of the Maasberg, was unveiled on September 15, 2019 and is by the Elsloo artist José Fijnaut. The monument is, among other things, a tribute to cycling heroes from the past who put the municipality of Stein, and Elsloo in particular, on the map. Some names: Sjefke Janssen, Jan Nolten, Wim Scheepers, Henk, Leo and Harrie Steevens. And there is more, you can read it all at kleinemonumentenstein.nl/monumenten/diversen/wielermonument

Limburg has produced a number of big names in the field of cycling. In 1968 the finish of the third Amstel Gold Race was in Elsloo. Joop Zoetemelk came here in 1980 to show the yellow jersey.

The location is easily accessible, both in the evening and during the day.
