A very pretty little chapel, an inn, just a few meters away is the battle memorial with a great view and directly opposite the chapel there is parking and a public transport stop.
The perfect starting point for hikes in all directions.

On June 17, 1405, the Battle of the Stoss took place here. 400 Appenzeller defeated a troop of 1200 mounted abbot and Habsburg soldiers and thus sealed the separation of the old and at that time still undivided country of Appenzell from the sovereignty of the Prince Abbot of St. Gallen. A memorial commemorates this day.

The half-cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Appenzell Innerrhoden, which have been separate since 1597, celebrated the 600th anniversary of the battle separately - the Catholic Innerrhodians, as every year, with a procession.
