The main square of Martigny, which dates back to 1818, was redesigned in 2012 and has been enormously upgraded as a central inner-city meeting area. The existing picture-forming plane trees were supplemented and the residential and terrace zones of the street cafés were newly zoned. The car traffic is reduced and can be excluded if necessary. A generous fountain system ensures plenty of humidity and a good microclimate. A really nice place is today again and accordingly well-attended.

MARTIGNY: The south begins in "Martigny": thanks to the many hours of sunshine, tomatoes and wine grapes thrive here, in addition to apricot and other fruit trees. The city itself also exudes a southern atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the recurring traces of Roman times that appear in the cityscape. In addition, Martigny benefits from a favorable location: at the intersection of the major Alpine routes over the Simplon and Great Bernard Passes, and close to various winter sports centers. It developed into an important cultural center partly thanks to the Fondation Pierre Gianadda.
