From the hiking guide "Hiking in Wuppertal", ISBN 978-3-00-064869-4: "When Alt-Schee fell with the county of Mark to Brandenburg and thus to Prussia in 1609, the state border with the Duchy of Berg ran there. The new sovereigns declared Alt-Schee to the customs station and collected from the coal transports that were on their way towards the mountain ".

Alter Schee is an old half-timbered village. There is a small street through the village and there are several well-preserved, beautiful old houses.
Today Alter Schee belongs to the district of Schee, to Sprockhövel.
Hard coal was mined in the area around Alter Schee as early as the 15th century.
