The St. Georg fountain is actually a war memorial, but does not look like it. Only when you look closely at the inscriptions you get on it. Built in 1930 and renovated in 1996.

After fierce controversies between the bishop and the citizens in the 12th and 13th centuries, Speyer became a Free Imperial City in 1294, and the right to mint coins was transferred to the patriciate. They built the House of the Minters, which also served as the official residence of the city council.
After Speyer's destruction in 1689, the imposing Baroque building was erected, which served as a trading center until the 19th century and later as the seat of various government agencies.
In addition to retail stores, the Old Mint now houses the city's treasury and property management offices.
