The Montagne Saint-Pierre is the plateau between the lower valleys of the Geer and the Meuse. The limestone subsoil of this region was formed during the Cretaceous period, a period more than 65 million years old, in a marine environment where animals thrived, as evidenced by the discovery of many fossils, including the famous mosasaur.
Over the centuries, a typical vegetation has gradually settled in this region: limestone grasslands, thanks in particular to the use of the slopes as pastures for sheep and goats.
