Retranchement is located on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium.
The Triplets of Retranchement are three border markers with the same number: 364. The middle of the three marks the border. The village is located on the Zwin and when the piles were placed, water still flowed through it. It was therefore difficult to determine exactly where the border lay. Three posts were placed.
