On a well-tended piece of lawn there is a bell on a large boulder, with a bronze plaque underneath. "From 1978 to 1993 this bell reminded us of solidarity and steadfastness in the fight for freedom, God bless and protect Ermershausen," it says.

From then on, Ermershausen was called "the rebel village". They renamed the town hall square "Police Raid Square" and from then on, the citizens gathered every night on May 19th to commemorate the police operation. On the morning of May 19th, 1980, the citizens also gathered in front of the town hall. They wanted to ring their freedom bell for the first time.
