Most of the Grundlos meadow in the Wiesen am Hirtenborn nature reserve was formerly used as a MOB base for the German Armed Forces, but the base buildings were completely removed and the site was to be naturalized.
In the mid-2000s, however, an energy farm was set up on the site. Tree trunks were processed into wood chips and stored in halls and in open spaces. Such commercial use is prohibited under the nature reserve ordinance. However, the cessation of operations ordered by the public prosecutor's office was not followed for several years.
