"... St. Bartholomew the Apostle is the patron saint of the parish. The place itself is named after St. Aldegundis, the founder and abbess of the 7th century in East Flanders, present-day Belgium. It is believed that on a chapel or hermitage dedicated to St. Aldegundis already stood on the site of the "Old Church".When names were assigned to the settlements around the time of Charlemagne, it made sense to give the small settlement below the chapel the name "St.Aldegund". ..."
