The chancellery, which marks the dividing line between urban area in the south and stately district in the north, was built in 1497 in the reign of Count Philip of Nassau-Idstein as a count's office. Watch and Prison, torture chamber, granary and servants quarters were other uses. Today, the festive, spacious wedding room of the Idsteiner registry office is located on the first floor.
