Adjacent to the Constantine Hill is the Constantine Pond, which was previously used for boat trips. Below the Constantine Hill was the Hirschenstadl, where deer and roe deer were kept until 1867. From a structural point of view, the oldest bridge in Vienna still in existence, the Konstantinsteg, opened in 1873 and now a listed building, leads to the hill.

The mound was created during the excavation work for the rotunda for the 1873 World Exhibition in Vienna. It was named after the Oberhofmeister Konstantin zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (1828-1896), who had worked on the construction management of the world exhibition.
