The former Danube oxbow lake near the stone spur bridge is the most famous place for the flora and fauna of the former floodplain. It was consciously preserved as an alluvial forest relic and has been a natural monument under the Vienna Nature Conservation Act since 1986. Downstream the water is connected to the New Danube. A threshold prevents the water from flowing off when the water level is low. The water in the Dead Bottom is around two meters deep, with a water surface of around 2.6 hectares.
