The Klapgat is a tiny medieval alley opposite the tower of the church of St. John. Churchgoers used to catch up in this alley under the eye of Christ. That catching up happened so intensively that the alley was named 'Klapgat'.

The Klapgat is a tiny corridor opposite the tower of the Sint-Janskerk. In the hallway, churchgoers used to gather after mass to chat ("clap"). They did this so intensively that the corridor was given the name Klapgat. A statue of Christ oversaw the babblers from the Garden of Olives. In the small chapel next to the statue you can see a group of statues behind bars. In the past, believers gathered there to pray in difficult times. They then put a 'suske' (1 centime) or 'cent' (2 centime) into the built-in offering block.
