Madeira Terrace is a Grade 2* listed, 865-metre-long stretch of seafront arches and promenade on Madeira Drive in Brighton.
Originally built in the late 1800s, more and more of it has been closed to the public since 2014. This is because the local marine environment has degraded the structure and made it unsafe.

Due to the current level of funding we have for this project and the size of the restoration works we need to do, we’ll be restoring Madeira Terrace in phases.

Stunning Grade 2 listed archways and promenade making up the longest cast iron structure in Britain, which runs along the length of Madeira Drive. The terrace was originally built to attract tourists to Brighton, when the London to Brighton train line opened, and it offered pedestrians shelter from the sun and rain.

Although the terrace is closed due to the deteriorating structure, a restoration project is proposed, so hopefully funds will be raised so it can be enjoyed again in the future.

There is a fab cycle lane that runs all the way along the terrace from the Pier right through to the Marina and beyond to saltdean. There are bicycles for hire, and it is safe for children. The Victorian 'Reading Room' café has now been done up and is open to the public, and some of the pebble beach has been landscaped to encourage the growth of seaside plants.
