The approximately 196.17 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1982, extends directly east of the core town of Niederkrüchten along the Schwalm. In the northern area the A 52 crosses the area, in the middle area it is the state road L 371. The L 3 runs on the southeastern edge, the B 221 and the state border with the Netherlands run to the west.
