In 2008 the association Neustädter Händler e.V. had this plaster mill built from historical relics. Remains of a last gypsum pit can still be seen at the foot of the Sörenberg.

Neustadt was considered a gypsum mill village 200 years ago. At least 13 mills were operated in the second half of the 18th and well into the 19th century in the Neustadt district; the density of such non-water-driven gopels was unique in Neustadt. The unfired and uncleaned ground gypsum was used as fertilizer in agriculture.
