Not only the rustic wooden construction itself is worth seeing, but also the views on both sides of the bridge! The Bern Bridge is one of the first three bridges (along with the Mittlere Brücke and the Sankt-Johannbrücke) built in Freiburg in the middle of the 13th century. Before that, the city's citizens had to cross the Saane on a ferry boat. In 1340, the Bern Bridge was sawn up due to an enemy attack; today it is the last covered wooden bridge in Freiburg.
