Beer has been brewed in the Oberstreuer Brauhaus for approximately 300 years based on brewing rights.

The brewery first appeared in village records in April 1699.

This reference, however, already referred to an extension contract for the brewing rights.

The Prince-Bishop's Eminence was pleased to consider the request and, via the Mellrichstadt District Office, granted it favorably.

It was not until 1891 that several more letters were received, originating from the Joachim and Son company, an iron foundry and boilermaker from Schweinfurt.

The then mayor, Anton Heuring, ordered mash tuns for 49 German Reichsmarks and machinery for 170 German Reichsmarks.

On the occasion of a brewery, I can't resist—from a purely literary perspective—and must briefly quote the humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909–1979), whom I highly respect and who was widely known for his wit and "Another Poem," with one of his—very rare—tongue-and-grouse:

Beer was still brewed in the historic brewery until 2019. The brewery is open for tours during the Brewery Festival, which always takes place on the second weekend of October.
