Until 1870, the parish church of Stuivekenskerke stood in the hamlet of Oud-Stuivekens, now Onze-Lieve-Vrouwhoekje. During the First World War, Oud-Stuivekenskerke was an advanced position of the Belgian army. The old tower of the former parish church was used as a lookout post.

The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwhoekje consists of the chapel of Our Lady of Victory, the ruins of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter Zege church tower, one demarcation pole, two memorial columns and 41 memorial stones for the regiments that participated in the Battle of the Yser of 18 until October 31, 1914.

The orientation table is located on top of the restored base of the old church tower of the original parish church. This table points to 35 important places from the First World War. The tower itself is a remnant of the Gothic St. Peter's Church, which was built in 1572 and was damaged during the Battle of the Yser in 1914. The area around the tower, known as the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwehoekje, also contains a chapel, several memorial columns for regiments that took part in the battle, and a demarcation post.

Anecdote: The tower of the old church was used as a strategic lookout post by the Belgian troops. The tower provided a crucial overview of the battlefield and helped coordinate the defense against German attacks.
A special moment was when a Belgian reconnaissance patrol on November 1, 1914 discovered that the hamlet had been abandoned by the Germans after the flooding of the area. They found about 300 German bodies in the area, which emphasized the intensity of the fighting and the impact of the flooding.
