On a hill above the town of Starý Hrozňatov (Altkinsberg), about 5 kilometers from Cheb, is the impressive pilgrimage church of Maria Loreto. The church, whose construction began in 1664, is one of the most visited pilgrimage churches in the Czech Republic and Germany. Under the communist regime, the pilgrimage site gradually fell into disrepair, but in 1992 it was extensively renovated using donations from residents of the German town of Waldsassen. Maria Loreto has not only been restored to its former beauty, but is now also a symbol of reconciliation, a place where Germans and Czechs find each other.

The pilgrimage church was devastated after World War II and fell rapidly. The miraculous image with the black Madonna, which was brought to Altkinsberg in Italy from Loreto in 1665, was preserved because it had been brought to a safe place in time. After the opening of the border, the Förderverein Maria Loreto, under the leadership of the entrepreneur Anton Hart, rebuilt the entire complex and tried to restore large parts of the original state with cemetery, Holy Sepulcher and Stations of the Cross.

Thanks to the entrepreneur Anton Hart, who was born in Neukinsberg, in 1992 the association for the reconstruction and preservation of the place of grace "Maria Loreto" was founded. In cooperation with the Czech authorities and the financial support of the association, the reconstruction was celebrated in 1994 with a joint worship service.
