Unity Square (Piața Unirii) is the heart of Cluj-Napoca. At 220 by 160 metres, it is one of the largest urban squares in the country. It is dominated by a number of historic buildings such as St. Michael's Church or Banffy Palace, as well as the Matthias Corvinus Monument in its centre. There are paid parking spaces and public toilets here. The remains of Roman buildings (Vestigii romane) can be seen under a glass cover.

The Unirii Market Square (Unification Market Square) is dominated by the local St. Michael's Church and the statue of Matthias Corvinus in front of it, while on the western side the Banffy Palace and the two same buildings at the beginning of the "Street in the Mirror" are located.
At the beginning of the 20th century, it was renamed King Matthias Square in honor of Matthias Corvinus. It received its current name in 1918 - with the exception of the Communist era when it was called Libertatii Market Square (Liberty Marketplace).

The square is one of the largest in Romania, measuring 220 m by 160 m. The central quarter of the city extends from this square. St. Michael's Church with the highest spire in Romania (80 m) is the second largest Gothic style church in Romania.
