Alzenau Castle, located high above the Kahlaue, is Alzenau's landmark, visible from afar. It was built in the first half of the 15th century and was for a long time an administrative seat for the electors of Mainz. The complex circumscribes an oval, which is divided into a large walled forecourt and the inner castle with the castle courtyard and palace. The forecourt was the so-called economic courtyard before the building of the district court found its place here.

The lower castle courtyard is generally accessible during the day, the upper castle courtyard is open at events. The Palas is opened for events and guided tours, individually after registration at the city information desk in the town hall. Group tours for up to 15 people cost 25 euros. Each additional person (up to a maximum of 25 people) costs 2 euros.
