In spring and early summer, when there is too much rainfall, the three lakes in the Holtmühle are filled with a lot of water and then they are full of birds, frogs and other animal species. Later in the drought, the habitat for living things is reduced.

"Seamless green now leads us over a piece of "Pieterpad" into the Wambach Park; an open, yellow-scorched meadow landscape with withering mulleins awaits us beyond this "tree line".
On the Kaldenkerkergrensweg we are almost in German territory, but then make a westerly arc through the well-known NSG of the Drei Meren Holtmühle and arrive south of the rattling gravel works in the Maalbeker lake landscape.
Here is the shady BestBank, which we hoped to see again, where we take a longer break, just don't go swimming, but really enjoy the place by the water."
