The rarity of the tree had become clear since the beginning of the 20th century. The first maintenance measures were carried out by the Taunus Club as early as 1902. On July 30, 1937, the tree was declared a natural monument. On the night of March 27-28, 1966, however, it was felled by a windpipe. Today's Krausbäumchen is an offshoot of the tree of that time.
The Krausbäumchenschneise is named after him.
