The church dates from the time of the Flemish immigration in the early 13th century. With the immigrants, the Christian faith also moved into the region. The churches were built, including those in Stolzenhagen.
Two bells hang in the tower. The older of the two was cast around 1300, the younger in 1471. This younger bell was drafted for armaments in WW2. She should be melted down. After the end of the war, however, Rev. Grützmacher found this bell in the Hamburg Bell Cemetery and brought it home.
