One can hardly believe that in Neustadt a central supply of drinking water, although already decided in 1914, but only since 1931 has been built, starting from a waterworks in Klein-Heidorn.
Until then, only various wells, pumps, or - for the soaking of cattle - the leash or trapped rainwater were available to the population.
In the immediate vicinity of the frog fountain is the small old gargoyle with lion's head, he is also functional again.

You cannot miss the large "frog fountain" on the market square. Here was one of the city's central water points, from which local residents such as the pharmacist or the Ratskeller were probably already supplied. In 1828 the cantor Warnecke was still complaining about how difficult and dangerous it was to fetch the water for the needs of people and cattle from the market well. "How many times have my maids fallen on the way with the water" (Barby, KA Rep 5).
