The creation of the Scheunenviertel in Kremmen can be traced back to the electoral decree of 1672. Today there are still 50 of the 70 barns that used to be there. It should be unique in Germany, maybe also in Europe. Today there is a museum, theatre, restaurants, cafés, shops and the Kremmen tourist information office.

The Kremmener Scheunenviertel was in the early nineties in a very poor state of construction, there were no paved roads and the development was limited to a partial electrical development. With the development of the district through the city and the extensive renovation of barns by the owners, the terms of use have been fundamentally improved. It developed artistic and gastronomic trade.

On the outskirts of the city of Kremmen, 30 km north-west of Berlin, is what is probably Germany's largest surviving barn district. About 50 buildings, mostly lined up in several rows, form an ensemble in terms of floor plan and facade and arranged in a unique symmetry, which as a whole has been a listed building since 1993.
