The Palatine is one of the oldest areas of Rome where today are the ruins of the temples and palaces of the Roman emperors who lived there. Although today only some parts of the old structures remain, through them we can appreciate and imagine the lifestyle they had at that time. One of the best preserved structures on the Palatine Hill is the imperial house also known as the House of Augustus.

Discovered at the end of the 19th century, the so-called Palatine Stadium is a building with an elongated rectangular floor plan (m 161 x 48 m) whose curvilinear south-west side is surrounded on at least three sides by a three-tiered portico and which on the eastern side is characterized by a semi-domed exedra (it is possible that it was a nymphaeum or a summer triclinium rather than a tribune).
