In winter you can immerse yourself in a winter landscape that can hardly be described. You have to experience it and you have to drive to the parking lot and from there walk to the summit station. The Villach Alpine Road is open all year round and from mid-April to
Mid-November subject to a charge. Those who have the KärtnerCard pay nothing for the toll road except for the people in the vehicle without a card, 5€.

The route to the summit of the Dobratsch, starting point at the Rosstratte car park, can be done in several ways. The easiest, however, is to follow the "normal" route. This should also be possible for inexperienced and not particularly well-equipped people. Good footwear is a must, however, as the path is partly made of coarse gravel and can be slippery, especially when going downhill. It is around 4.5 km with an elevation difference of around 450 m. The effort is definitely worth it, the view from the summit cross is fantastic.

Beautiful views of the Slovenian and Italian Alps. In good weather you can see the Grossglockner.
Of course there is an alpine hut here. Here the cattle also run around freely 🤩
A head for heights is required at the top of the chapel and the summit cross.
The path consists mainly of wide but heavily graveled paths... sturdy shoes would make sense.
If you want to drive to the Dobratsch car park, you have to pay a toll of 19.50 euros for the Alpenstraße.
Of course there is also a Jägersteig to the summit... 😉
