Cyril was a hurricane on 18/19. January 2007 affected public life in large parts of Europe and reached wind speeds of up to 225 km / h in gusts. It claimed 47 casualties and resulted in substantial property damage, the premature closure of kindergartens, schools, universities, public authorities and businesses, as well as significant disruptions in the energy and transport sectors. Over a million people were temporarily without electricity. Flights had to be canceled, ferry services stopped and roads blocked. Rail traffic was almost completely stopped in some parts of Central Europe, affecting tens of thousands of travelers.

There in the forest at the Wehrbüsch in Daun you can see many remnants of the mighty hurricanes in recent years. At the beginning of 2019 another one, not quite as strong as Kiryll, swept through the forest and we had to climb hard to master the way. You are always stunned by the torn out trees and their broad roots and can only imagine the force that it takes to overturn such giant trees
