Where the sweet river IJzer flows into the salty water of the North Sea, that is the IJzer estuary in Nieuwpoort. The combination of fresh and salt water creates a unique fauna and flora. You can also reach this nature reserve by ferry from Nieuwpoort Center to the IJzermonding and vice versa, but first check the timetable at Welcome to Vloot. The nature reserve also offers a resting place for seals. Maybe you spot some?
