The Weißenburg is a hilltop castle in the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel east of Rudolstadt in Thuringia. It is located very close to a rock face rising up from the Saale. It is believed that the complex was built around 1248 in connection with a division of the Weimar-Orlamünde Count House. Martin Luther and Goethe, among others, resided here. Meanwhile a nice place for a break with gastronomy. Easily accessible by bike.

The origins of the castle date back to the 13th century. At the beginning of the 16th century, the castle was converted into a palace, which was seriously damaged in a fire. In 1796 work began on rebuilding the castle in its present form.
