The mysterious stones, called "The Twelve Apostles", consist of a series of diabase stones. Scholars argue: have the monoliths been there for 5,000 years as a kind of Upper Franconian Stonehenge? Or did Christians put them up in the Middle Ages? Twelve pieces, a holy number! Other researchers see traces of modern work - is the arrangement of the stones even more recent? The diabase stones are indifferent to this argument: they stand in complete peace, rock solid. Let us be inspired by this equanimity: it is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the silence in complete peace of mind!

A number of stones set up, their origin and why they were set up is unclear. In any case, it is a beautiful place with a bench right on the Frankenwald Steigla 12-Apostel-Weg.

Whether the "Twelve Apostles" (actually there are only ten) actually come from the Neolithic Age, were set in the Middle Ages or are even more recent, the scholars argue, but no matter whether it is 5000 years or "only" 500 years old - the mysterious Diabasteine on the outskirts of Hermesgrün radiate a very special aura.
