From the Reppister Höhe you have a good view of the surrounding area below.
At the viewing point there are steles made of Corten steel with various place names. These places had to make way for open-cast lignite mining and this is how they are remembered.
Two of the towns were first mentioned in 1370 and then sacrificed to open-cast mining in 1986/87.
On the Reppister Höhe you can also find some relics of the Meuro open-cast mine.

The place Reppist used to stand here (1490-1986). It fell victim to open-cast lignite mining and was dredged. Now you have a good view of the post-mining landscape including the Großräschener See, which is still in flooding. With good visibility you can see the mountains of Upper Lusatia in the south.
