Briançon is a picturesque and interesting town famous for being fortified by Vauban in the 17th century. It is also the highest town in Europe.
Not only does the walled town make an interesting place to take a little time off the bike and take in some culture and history, but Briançon is also the largest town on the Grande Alpine Traverse route. So is the perfect place to stock up on supplies and get anything you need fixed or replaced before heading back out into the mounatains.
