The Sand Motor, also known as DeltaDuin, is located off the coast of Ter Heijde. This is an artificial peninsula or sandbank. The sand spreads through wind, current, ebb and flow along the Dutch coast. This attempts to carry out coastal conservation in a more natural way than to raise the beach each time.

Here, an artificial sandbank was piled up in front of the shore line for coastal protection in 2011. The 21.5 million cubic meters of sand used for this purpose were absorbed by ships 10 km off the coast from the seabed and pumped to the shore. Since then, wind and currents have deformed the artificial dune, creating a large inlet on which water sports take place.
ATTENTION WALKERS FROM SOUTH: The Priel can usually only be conquered on the eastern side of the sand, so go along the dune belt.
