The magnificent former building of the Karlovy Vary City Savings Bank on Theaterplatz has been privately owned since 1993. It is currently used as a residential and commercial building. However, the representative Art Nouveau building still bears the lavishly gilded lettering "Sparkasse" on the façade.

The First Karlovy Vary Savings Bank was founded in 1862 and at the beginning of the 20th century. in the 19th century, its board of directors decided to build a new representative building on today's Theater Square. The construction of the Art Nouveau building of the municipal savings bank, designed by the architect Otto Steinl, was carried out in 1904-1906 under the leadership of the builder from Karlovy Vary, Josef Waldert.

The construction of this new representative building in the vicinity of the cast-iron hot spring colonnade was decided by the Sparkasse's board of directors at the beginning of the 20th century. The young Karlsbad master builder Ing.Otto Stainl developed the design for the corner building. The actual construction took place in the years 1904 - 1906 under the direction of the Karlsbad master builder Josef Waldert. On April 26, 1906, the opening ceremony of the Art Nouveau banking house of the Karlsbader Stadtsparkasse took place.
