These Abbey ruins date back to 1156 and it suffered the same fate under Henry VIII as the rest of the Cistercian Abbeys around here. This one is actually privately owned, and there's an honesty box for donations during your visit.
The lovely tea-rooms are open daily from 10 to 4.00/4.30, but unfortunately as we've just hit November they've now closed the tea-rooms until February. You can still stroll around the grounds and the ruins though!

Once one of Yorkshire's great Cistercian abbeys, Jervaulx Abbey is today an enchanting ruin and a Grade I-listed building in the northern reaches of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Today, it is a family-run ancient monument and is open to visitors all year round. While there is no official entrance fee, visitors are asked to make a contribution to the conservation of this grand piece of monastic history.
