The Zwarte Beek rises in Hechtel-Eksel and then flows through Beringen to Lummen. There the Helderbeek and the Halbeek flow from Heusden-Zolder into the Zwarte Beek.
In Halen she squeezes further between the witness hills and finally disappears into the Demer in Diest.

The Zwarte Beek is of course central to the Valley of the Black Beek. The stream valley of this tributary of the Demer has a great natural value because nature protection is done over almost the entire course. In some nature walks around the Zwarte Beek you don't even get to the stream itself, that's how valuable the valley is. Here in Zelem you will get there and cross it several times.
