A small harbor with a ferry connection to Ditzum: That's what Petkum stands for, a place that has existed for more than 1200 years.

You have to imagine the Ems before the bridge was built by Jann Berghaus in Leer, the railway bridge in Weener and the crossing in Papenburg in order to understand the importance of the ferries here on the Ems, especially for the Rheiderland. Today, the last remaining ferry in Rheiderland may seem like a nostalgic bon mot. Once upon a time, however, the importance of ferries was economically essential.
