According to tradition, Saint Irene (around 653 at Thomar's) found a sudden end on behalf of a rejected worshiper in a nunnery. In the 18th century, a chapel was dedicated to her in this small village on the Way of St. James in the province of A Coruña. Her feast day is the 20th of October. Perhaps her presentation overlaps with that of Irene von Thessaloniki.

The beautiful chapel of Santa Irene is located at the foot of the Camino de Santiago. It is a simple construction with a rectangular floor plan, from the end of the 17th century, which has a splendid carballeira ("oak grove") around it, the scene of the Pilgrimage of San Pedro on June 29.
Very close to it is the fountain that bears the same name, very popular with pilgrims, as it is known as the Fountain of Eternal Youth, and according to legend, anyone who washes with its water will always remain young. .
