In Wittmoor you will find total peace and relaxation. There are easy-to-drive paths and real single trails for mountain bikers. It can get quite muddy after downpours.
The former high moor is a treasure trove for botanists or forest scientists, a documentation of the vegetation and forest history since the last ice age. Even for the layman, there is an impressive picture of the millennia-long history of the formation of this moor, which is a nature reserve in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

The Wittmoor Nature Reserve (Low German: Wittmoor = white moor) is located in the north of Hamburg in the districts of Duvenstedt and Lemsahl-Mellingstedt. The raised bog extends to Glashütte, a district of Norderstedt in Schleswig-Holstein. It was used for peat extraction until 1958 and has been designated a nature reserve since February 21, 1978.
A hiking trail leads through the renaturalized and dammed raised bog on the embankment of the old mine railway. Prehistoric plank dams crossed the Wittmoor.
