From the castle garden you can look out over the Tauber valley in three directions. To the north you can see Detwang, the Fuchsmühle and the Topplerschlösschen, to the south you can see the double bridge and the hospital district, the so-called “Kappenzipfel” and to the west you can see the Engelsburg and the former ski jump.

At this point the Hohenstaufen built their imperial castle in 1142. King Konrad III ruled from here. the Empire. The settlement expanded from the castle until Rothenburg was one of the 10 largest cities of the Holy Roman Empire in 1400.

Through the castle gate you leave the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber into the green. The castle garden, which is always open, offers wonderful views of the Taubertal and serves as a starting point for numerous hiking routes in the nature around Rothenburg.
