The Tietz is a cultural center in Chemnitz and is located in the former Tietz department store from 1913. It includes folk high school, city library, Museum of Natural Chemnitz and the New Saxon Gallery.

"Das TIETZ" was the name given to the building in Chemnitz, which opened in 1913 as Saxony's most exclusive department store at the time. After Nazi terror, looting, and closure in 1938, and later use by "socialist retailers," it was operated as a department store by Kaufhof AG from 1990 onward. For the people of Chemnitz, it always remained "Das TIETZ."
In 2001, Kaufhof AG abandoned the building in favor of a new building opposite the town hall. The city of Chemnitz developed a usage concept as a cultural center, creating a highly acclaimed example of modern inner-city development.
